Their wedding is this Saturday. Everyone is coming from Napa to this very remote, high mountian lake in the Lassen National Forest for a second wedding at their family's cabin. Kathay and Wymann, Whitney's parents, were married there as well.
I really get a great feeling of love, adoration and mutual respect this couple has for one another and the humor, they will never be board.
I am excited to shoot their wedding. I am working with artist photographer Bosian Crandall, she'll be my assistant and hopefully my second shooter after she's assited me on a few weddings.
The men in my life
Ryon was so pissed that I wanted him to sit for me. On the day of his birth I have an image of him with the same look. Ryon is a bad ass and has more man energy in his little finger then most men I've met in my life. I never understood how, me the liberal, gave birth to such a he man.
Mike could care less about having his picture taken. The best with people. At ease in any condition. The yawn and the hands in his pants is the same look he's had since he was a baby in the morning. I am still telling him at 17 "Stop It get your hands out your pants".
Tristan is a candy nut and hoarder just like his mom. He seems to have a lot of Ryon's Leo personality without the intensity and a lot of Mikes ease.
Is the coolest, funnest, most hip, real estate agent and my friend. I love this women!!!!. I always have a blast in her company. I have known her and worked on various boards with her for the last 15 years. We are shooting her new head shot...trying to move away from the industry standard stiff and boring. I'd call her.....she looks very nice to me.
WHAT GOES INTO MAKING THE PHOTOS BELOW. GOING AFTER EXCELLENCE
I started the shoot yesterday at 5pm and I finished editing at 1am. I spent about 2 hours 45 minutes with Kelly and her mom. I broke for dinner then went back to editing. I wanted to see how long the whole thing really took. Start to finish. I styled the shots, did the makeup for each look and a little hair at one point. I shot over 800 images. In the future for a 2 hour shoot I will try not to shoot so much, but I shoot very fast. When I see something that looks right, I will lean on the button. I shot in my studio and out in the meadow next door to my house.
What's in the shot.
15,000K worth of state of the art canon cameras and lenses.
3K in state of the art lighting equipment.
5K in state of the art computers and editing programs.
80K studio.
Priceless meadow and view.
20 years fashion print industry experience. That includes clothes, make-up and shot styling including poses and angles.
A photography education, Photoshop cs3 educated, lightroom educated, Canon digital SLR cameras educated.
An eye. I have been told this one is very hard to teach that you can't learn it. It's a natural ability that was Identified by my mentors while I was in my late teens, Martin Ryter and Lisle Taaje. It's what Eileen Ford had, John Casablancas has and Tyra banks has. It's what made me an international model agent and scout and now a fine art photographer. I have been told it's a gift. It has been a gift to me.
I am a boutique fine art photographer. I provide an exclusive first class photographic experience and service for any of my commissioned clients. Although, my pricing is extremely reasonable, I do not promote myself as any sort of a budget photographer. I have been told I provide an experience that is worth every penny and then some and that I should increase my rates. Nice compliment.
I strive to make each client look better than they have ever looked before in photos.
If you are looking for quick cheap pictures I wouldn't be the right choice.
I really like it when my clients want to have the best pictures possible taken of themselves. Then we are both on the same page working toward a common goal.
Excellence in human photo capture.
I just completed a senoir portrait shoot with a really great girl. Kelly. She is wonderful in front of the camera. I really enjoyed meeting her and her mom, who helped me with the reflector. I hope you enjoy the pictures.
I live at the base of this view. I walk in this meadow everyday with my three dogs. This is what is behind me as I walk to the shores of these waters. I stand on the mound in the forground and throw sticks in the water for titus. I never get sick of the view and I have been looking at it for 15 years. I shot these on the fly with my little olympus sp 350 8 mega pixel 3x optical zoom, set at the highest resolution in jpeg. I shoot ALL huge files. Becasue I always want the option of printing HUGE images. I was headed into town and saw the light behind me and flipped around went down to the end of the causway jumped the railing and climbed down, in my flip flops. This was all shot in camera.

Misc Thoughts
OFF to Reno today to have a thing removed from the corner of my eye. It has been growing for too long. I am not looking forward to this.
Jake Wade won the extreme bulls at the Reno Rodeo. His name is SO cowboy they must of known right out the shoot(no pun intended) that he was going to ride bulls.
I am not new to photography, but I am to the sport of bull riding. I am amazed at how those bulls can fly. I was having a hard time understanding why they are so pent up. Literally, a whole ton flying and spinning through the air on tip toe all they need it a tutu. Except they aren't graceful they're PISSED. They are very angry and I stared noticing in my photos, besides the SIZE of those testicles (my goodness), that some actually exhibit what looks like an actual bull erection (flying through the air, mind you, with another appendage in tow)and I'm thinking, that just doesn't seem right. Then I noticed the rope on the hind quarters. Yes, it takes me a while. As smart as I may look, I am a SLOW study. Then I get it. Why they take SO dang long in those shoots. They are tying those testicles in knots (not really, but they are sinching the package very tight with the back rope). Kind of like I'd like to do to the men folk in my family including the almost 10 year old, most days.
Jake Wade wherever you are I have some amazing photos of your ride. If you are interested in seeing my bull riding gallery it's at www.kimjamesfineart.com under galleries under Rodeo.
I don't like complaining it doesn't help, bitching is another story and I believe firmly in that. But I AM SICK (I MEAN IT, I AM FEELING SICK OF THE SMOKE AND I KNOW IT'S GOING TO BE MONTHS). Plumas county is like last on the list for getting fires out unless they threaten town. It is thick smoke most days and now I can't exercise and I need it I am gaining inches sitting.
I am off to Reno with Mike (Mr. 17 know it all), for another day of sitting, He is my only ride back. I hope they knock me out before I have to ride 2.5 hours with him at the helm. He is truly a Lovely boy and a Bigger talker than me. It could be a joyous day or a trying one.
Guess who I found. I throw it out there and the next day. Ta da. Dan Garcia. I will be calling.
